Triple Yin-Yang Birthday!

Last Tuesday, we celebrated a triple birthday Stop Drop and Dance class for Aimee Foreman, Kim Lewis, and Pam Flores!

The Yin Yang black and white theme was amazing and we danced for 75 minutes in the 95 degree heat wave! Let’s just say it was a very fun and very sweaty class!

Thanks to Aimee who danced up front almost the entire time, Kim for absolutely crushing it in her Cruella wig, and Pam for sharing black and white gratitude stones as we left. Thank you to Erin Meyers and Sara Rainbolt for decorating and for bringing perfectly themed yin yang chocolate cookies!

Our "Wonder"ful Hora Dance!

Some things are just beyond coincidence and can only be explained by divine intervention, or “little miracles”.

Two weeks ago, Katy Perry released her new 143 album, and immediately Lisa Butcher sent me the song, “Wonder,” because of the beautiful lyrics that match the heart of our Stop Drop and Dance classes:

“‘Cause one day, when we’re older
Will we still look up in wonder?
Someday, when we’re wiser
Will our hearts still have that fire? (Oh)
Can somebody promise me
Our innocence doesn’t get lost in a cynical world?
One day, when we’re older
Will we still look up in wonder?”

When I first heard this song, I visualized all of us in a circle, coming together with our hands in the air, in wonder. The choreography came easily and I was so excited to teach it right away.

I meant to teach it the next class, and then the next class, but we kept having conflicts because of birthdays or events, so last Thursday was the first opportunity I could put it into our playlist as the closing song.

It wasn’t until we circled up and I actually started teaching it, that Laura Tollen asked, “Is this supposed to be the Hora dance?” and I realized at that moment, “YES!!!”

That visualization I had must have absolutely been inspired by my first Bat Mitzvah I attended this year when I got to experience the Hora dance!

The magical part is that I could have taught this dance any day of the year.

But it just so happened that I unintentionally and randomly taught this "Wonder" dance exactly on Thursday, Rosh Hashanah, or the Jewish New Year.

It could not have been a more perfect Rosh Hashanah celebration for our Jewish and non-Jewish dancers.

Wishing you all a peaceful, healthy and happy New Year!!!
