Dear Friends,
Saturday is National Dance Day!
This Saturday, September 21st is National Dance Day, so we're going to celebrate by learning Meghan Trainor's, "Criminals," routine that is being used for the opening credits of Netflix's new show, "The Perfect Couple," starring Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber.
(Thanks to Jen Lefferts and Laura Briggs for sharing about this dance routine!).
Please join us at 9:30am @UUMarin on Saturday for a one-hour special Stop Drop and Dance choreography class where we will:
- break down all the movements slowly without music
- memorize and practice the choreography several times
- put it altogether at the end so hopefully you can perform it on your own!
If you are joining on Zoom, please note that we will be spending the last part of class recording the dance in-person (time permitting), so you are welcome to dance along from home or log off early.
Wear your BLUE "Better When I'm Dancing" shirt or any blue colors!
Back up dancers needed this Friday!
This Friday, September 20th, we will be leading our 3rd annual St. Isabella School Dance-a-thon at 10am! This has been our largest school fundraiser, raising over $15,000 the first year and over $12,000 last year!
We are so excited that dancing together can help make a real difference in St. Isabella's educational experience!
The whole K-8 school comes out to the blacktop at 10am and lines up in a semi-circle. Then we lead a 45-minute Stop Drop and Dance class, while inviting one grade at a time to dance in the center with us! Backup dancers are so important to help lead the whole school in the choroegraphy!
If you can join us, please reply to this email! We will be wearing our new black RAINBOW shirts!
Save the date: B4BC Fundraiser
Please mark your calendars for Saturday, October 5th at 9:30am for a one-hour Stop Drop and Dance fundraiser @UUMarin for B4BC - Boarding for Breast Cancer!
This will be our 5th annual fundraiser to support B4BC and the event will be hosted by Lisa Hudson, who always brings educational materials about breast cancer awareness and prevention (she has molds to understand what lumps feel like!) and goodies for after class!
If you are a Breast Cancer Survivor, please register to join for FREE! We would love to honor and recognize you!

Happy 10th Birthday Michelle Poirier!
We had SO much fun this past Saturday celebrating Amy Poirier’s daughter, Michelle! Amy is a regular in-person member who joins all of our Stop Drop and Dance classes, and even our Wednesday 9:30am 75 minute Strength and Stretch class!
On Saturday mornings for the past year and a half, Amy has also been bringing her two daughters to dance with us. They have joined multiple birthday classes as well as special fundraisers, and often come up front to lead dances too.
A few weeks ago, Amy mentioned that her daughter Michelle wanted to have a Stop Drop and Dance “Frog-Themed” birthday class “just like the other adults” and she specifically wanted to dance with her mom’s dance friends (haha that’s us!).
This was an easy YES! Of course we’d love to celebrate Michelle!
So on Saturday, even Amy’s husband joined in the class, and they brought cute frog headbands, tattoos and charms for everyone. Afterwards they shared donuts too!
Michelle made the playlist and danced up front the whole time (wearing a thick head to toe frog onesie for half of the class!).
Thank you to everyone who came to make Michelle's 10th birthday so incredibly unique and fun!
Happy Golden 13th Birthday!
For those of you not on social media... I posted this last Friday about my older daughter:
During our travels to China this past summer, our girls tried one of the “obligatory” glamour shot studios in Chengdu. They got to pick their traditional outfit, get their porcelain doll makeup and hair done, and then a photographer took photos of them in the streets and alleyways. It was super fast, super cheap, and super memorable.
In that one hour experience, I saw my little girl transform right in front of my eyes.
As you can see from her photo below, she has poise. She has grace. She has beauty. She has confidence. She has elegance.
And now, she has officially transitioned into a teenager.
I want to remember that on her last day as a 12 year old yesterday, she went from:
- throwing her socks on the ground for the puppies to play with
- taking quizzes on how many facts she knows about her celebrity crush Zendaya
- rolling her eyes and reluctantly consoling her younger sister who was crying over a wiggly tooth
- lying on the ground writing music lyrics and play lines into her sketchbook/journal
- to turning a page in her novel and suddenly breaking into the deepest sobbing
These are the bittersweet moments I hold onto so tightly and I want to remember so badly forever.
Happy Golden Birthday to my precious daughter who turned 13 on September 13th! I love you!
Love,
Grace
